PhD Positions - Call for Applications

The Leibniz Graduate School on Ageing (LGSA), Jena, Germany has THREE open PhD positions within a DFG-funded Research Training Group "Molecular Signatures of Adaptive Stress Response" (RTG 1715).

The Research Training Group is a joint initiative of the University Hospital and the Biological-Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena as well as the Leibniz Institute for Age Research - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) Jena.

The aim of the RTG1715 is to explore specific signalling reactions controlling the ambivalent reaction patterns of cells and organisms to potentially noxious effects. The adaptive responses of signalling networks to defined stress stimuli will be investigated using cellular and organismic models. These investigations are expected to advance the understanding of molecular mechanism mediating diverse stress responses and of ageing process. In addition, the research will promote ongoing efforts for the understanding and effective employment of the organism's regenerative potential in modern medicine.

The training group offers a structured supervision complemented by teaching and training programs. Each student will work in an interdisciplinary research project and will be jointly supervised by three established scientists with complementary expertise.

Candidates are expected to hold a Masters degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (e.g., cell biology, molecular medicine, biochemistry, genetics, etc.) and have fluent English skills in word and writing.

For the first step please acquaint yourself with the research of the participating groups and with the application procedure on our website - http://www.fli-leibniz.de (Application), download the application and recommendation forms, fill in the application form and send it electronically to the LGSA referring to the registration number DM 46/2011 (the email address can be found in the application guidelines). Forward the recommendation form to two referees and ask them to submit their letter directly to the LGSA. Applicants should carefully follow the application guidelines. Do not submit your documents to the research group leaders. Incomplete or non-fitting applications will not be considered.

Deadline for submission is September 26th. The positions may start in January 2012 or earlier.
For further information please contact the LGSA Coordinator Claudia Müller (see http://www.fli-leibniz.de)

The following research groups will participate in the programme:

Heike Heuer - Neuroendocrinology
Helen Morrison - Molecular mechanisms involved in cancer development
Zhao-Qi Wang - Genomic stability
