V. Else Kröner-Fresenius Symposium on Adult Stem Cells in Aging, Diseases, and Cancer
organised by: Karl Lenhard Rudolph (FLI)
Address: Auf der Wartburg 2, 99817 Eisenach, Germany
We are very pleased to announce the V. Else Kröner-Fresenius Symposium on Adult Stem Cells in Aging, Diseases, and Cancer, scheduled for May 24 – 26, 2013 at the Wartburg-Hotel in Eisenach, Germany.
Since there have been no meetings specifically focusing on stem cell aging before, we initiated a series of meetings highlighting age related changes in adult stem cells. The first 2 symposia in 2009 and 2011 were extremely successful and have led to the establishment of the biannual Else Kröner-Fresenius Symposium on Adult Stem Cells as one of the most important meetings in the field. The V. Symposium will include a contribution on the role of adult stem cells in aging, diseases, and age-related cancer. We have planned a focused 3-day meeting with 34 of the world’s leading scientists as speakers (see attached program of confirmed speakers). There is growing evidence that aging of adult stem cells contributes to organ and issue aging as well as to the development of diseases. In addition, these mechanisms could contribute to the increasing cancer risk in aged issues. An understanding of molecular mechanisms of stem cell aging could identify targets for future therapies aiming to improve organ maintenance and quality of life during aging as well as to lower the risk of aging-associated cancer development.
The meeting will provide an excellent platform and an optimal atmosphere in the historical Wartburg to present unpublished data and to discuss novel concepts and ideas in the field. As in recent years the meeting is open to a limited number of poster presenters and registered attendees.
We are looking forward to seeing you in May 2013.
