Genome analysis

Genomics of ageing, complex diseases, and model organisms

With clinical partners, we work on detection and functional analyses of genetic and epigenetic variations determining the individual susceptibility to ageing and age-related diseases. We are engaged in the functional and comparative analysis of model and non-model genomes and transcriptomes.

Projects (selected)

The genealogical tree of Haeckel (1874)

» The "genealogical tree" of Ernst Haeckel (1874).

  • Towards a novel model for ageing research: genome analysis of the short-lived seasonal fish Nothobranchius furzeri » more
  • Investigating natural ways to exceptional long healthspan - the mole-rat case » more
  • Mild stress in healthy ageing - comparative transcriptomics within the Jena centre of systems biology of ageing » JenAge
  • Impact of genomic variations and DNA methylation on human longevity, ageing of the brain (EU/BrainAGE) and obesity » more
  • Genetic predisposition to environmental and age-related disorders (inflammatory bowel disease, sepsis [SEPTOMICS / CSCC], psoriasis) with special emphasis on copy-number and sequence variations of human defensin genes
  • Providing genomic expertise for collaborative projects: Exploring the Triticeae genomes by next-generation sequencing (BARLEX / TRITEX); Olfactory mate choice among bats and hyenas (PAKT / IZW)
  • Development of bioinformatics approaches for assembly and repeat annotation of complex genomes (Klaus Tschira Foundation) and their transcriptomes » more
