Fellows

FLI Career Development Fellowships

(Zur Zeit nur in Englisch verfügbar)

Purpose:

To attract the best young scientific talent to the FLI. To develop promising scientists to the stage where they can manage their own independent research team and be competitive for Junior Group Leader posts in the FLI and elsewhere.

Tenure of the Appointment:

The position will be for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension for a further 1 year.

Eligibility:

Postdoctoral scientists in the early stages of their career (generally below 35 years of age). Fellows should have a good publication record and demonstrate the potential to develop into independent scientists. Exceptional, in-house candidates will be considered, but the scheme is designed primarily to attract external candidates.

Mentorship:

Acceptance of a candidate requires that a mentor be designated from among the existing FLI group leaders, and that the group leader has agreed in advance to undertake this role.

Support:

The Fellow will receive his/her salary. In addition, one PhD studentship, basic equipment and € 20,000 per annum for running costs will be provided. It is expected that most facilities should be provided by the mentor’s group. The Fellow will have access to all general FLI facilities and services.

Space:

Space for 2 laboratory staff will be provided – generally in the mentor’s laboratory.

Selection of Candidates:

The Scientific Council of the FLI will serve as a Selection Committee, and may seek external advice. Selection will be rigorous, and candidates will be expected to show clear potential to achieve Group Leader status.

Project Proposal:

Potential candidates are invited to submit a research proposal (maximum of 4 pages at 1.5 line spacing). The project should broadly relate to the existing research activities of the FLI.
